Kitchen Remodeling

Whether you want to remodel kitchen cabinets, or you’re looking for a full kitchen upgrade, kitchen remodeling may be what you’re looking for. A kitchen remodel comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and it’s the perfect solution for anyone looking to upgrade their kitchen space.

This is the ultimate option for those who want a complete replacement of their kitchen. A kitchen remodel can help you upgrade your kitchen’s design, aesthetic, and functionality.

Naturally, there is a longer ‘downtime’ from the time the original cabinets are removed to the time that the new cabinets and countertops are installed. However, we try our very best to keep the downtime to a minimum by coordinating the trades. In many cases, we have been able to reduce the downtime to three weeks.

  2. You get the most flexibility with designing the kitchen according to your needs. It also must be noted that you may be restricted by the layout of your space and the location of the windows, pillars, bulk heads etc.
  3. You get to have that all new fresh cabinet feel, cabinets that have never been used before.
  4. The ability to incorporate updated storage solutions that may not have been built into the original cabinetry.
  5. If you have a certain style in mind that you have been inspired by, it may be easier to bring into reality if the entire kitchen is created from scratch.
  6. Lastly, sometimes if you have had a serious flood in your kitchen due to a leak, it is a good idea to start from scratch just to avoid any mold from developing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ‘Refacing’?

Refacing is the process of getting a new lease on life for your existing kitchen cabinets without completely breaking them down. The process starts with the removal of the existing doors and paneling the exterior parts of the kitchen like side panels and kick plates (the boards near the floor). We then install brand-new doors with soft-close hinges and updated hardware to complete the look.

How is ‘Refacing’ different from ‘Resurfacing’ or painting the kitchen cabinets?

The terms Refacing and Resurfacing are very similar, however in reality they are extremely different in process and results. With ‘Refacing’ you get brand new doors for your kitchen and these doors will give your cabinets greater longevity. On average, you can add 15 years or more with our standard doors and 20 years or more with our upgraded doors. While Refacing does cost more, it actually adds value to your kitchen and your home.

Painting/Resurfacing is simply the process of changing the colour of the doors by either painting or staining the existing doors. The quality and durability vary from project to project. We have heard of some customers who have been satisfied with these results and others who have been quite disappointed. The main issue is that you cannot control the outcome of the project as each cabinet door has different finishes/primers and different levels of moisture/oil. These factors can absolutely skew the results of each project.

On another important note, Painting/Resurfacing does not add value to your home as most people can see through the fact that someone has simply painted over an older style cabinet. It is better suited for a quick refresh or to hide imperfections at the time of selling your home.

What is the average cost of a refacing project?

No two kitchens are alike so costs can vary depending on size of the kitchen and on the technical difficulty of each project. The minimum price for a tiny kitchen is $5000 and the average price is $8000.

What is kitchen remodelling?

Kitchen remodeling is the process of completely removing the existing kitchen cabinets, countertops, and backsplash. When kitchens are remodeled, they could either follow a similar layout as the original kitchen or have a new layout that is better suited to the client’s needs and lifestyle. Sometimes even small changes in the layout can make big improvements in the efficiency of the kitchen.

Do you offer kitchen remodeling services and what is the average cost?

Yes, we absolutely do kitchen remodels and the average cost for a remodel is between $25,000-$30,000 including a countertop and a tiled backsplash.

Do you offer CAD sketches and renderings?

For clients looking to remodel their kitchen, we always show them technical CAD sketches along with life-like renderings. We want you to feel certain you are making the right decision before starting production.

‘Peninsulas’ or ‘islands’, which way to go and which is more useful?

Traditionally, peninsulas have been used in most kitchen designs as they were very popular, as well as the fact that houses were designed with minimal space for the kitchen. Unfortunately, kitchens were not considered to be a vital part of the home, as they are now. Peninsulas don’t need much space and so they were a popular addition to the home.

In the past two decades, architects have been designing homes with larger spaces dedicated towards kitchens and this has given rise to the popularity of islands. Islands require more space as there needs to be approximately 3 feet of clearance around the island for people to comfortably walk by. Even more clearance is required whenever there is an appliance in front of the island like a fridge, dishwasher, or oven/range.

By far, an island is the better way to go as it can offer seating, storage and keep the entire space open and accessible! Even though islands need a larger dedicated space for the kitchen, at times we have managed to squeeze them into some smaller kitchens, as they can be on the top of many clients’ wish lists!

Why are islands so popular these days?

Over the past two decades, islands have been increasing in popularity. These days, it’s every homeowner’s dream to own an island. Family and social dynamics have changed, and things have become less formal. People prefer to stand or sit around islands while enjoying a glass of wine rather than sitting down on a couch in the living room. Islands also seem to facilitate conversation as they bring people within proximity of each other, which works very well when it comes to social gatherings. They also offer a convenient serving area for get-togethers.

Islands can also help with storage because the cabinetry below it can efficiently be utilized to store pots and pans and other larger items. Finally, due to the island’s proximity to the kitchen/food prep area, most folks use it as the ‘everyday’ breakfast/dining table as it makes it super-efficient for the whole family to eat and get on with the day!

What is an overhang?

Not to be confused with a hangover ?, overhang refers to the part of the countertop that sticks out over the side of an island or a peninsula. The reason for an overhang is to be able to have enough countertop space so people can comfortably sit down and enjoy a meal. The average overhang is 12 inches.
